The Idle Hands Challenge

Hey readers, I hope life is going well. I have decided to take a break from advice for a post or two. I wanted to share a Challenge I created for my WeChat group, The Experiment. I am challenging you to be creative. You can choose any format: paint, ink, pencil, sculpture, collage, mixed media, photography, music, words, and whatever else you can think of. You don’t need to believe you are an artist to participate. If you are interested in this challenge, let me know. I’d love to see what you create and do with this challenge.

The Idle Hands Challenge

The world is waiting right now and we, the people, are collectively holding our breath. We are hoping for the best for our loved ones, our friends, the people we know, and the people we haven’t met yet. For some, the waiting is restless. We have a choice to make. We can continue to let idle hands drive us to fill our need with snacks, Netflix, and too much social media. Or… We can do something, we can create, and we can inspire.

While we are in various forms of self quarantine, let’s unite as a creative force. Let’s create things that inspire and motivate. Let’s bring good and understanding to the world when it needs it most.

Theme 1
Idle Hands
The old saying says that idle hands are the devils playthings. People are struggling to fill the unexpected time and seem to be choosing poorly. Let’s choose to get to work in the best way and create.

Theme 2
Chrysalis
Before a caterpillar can become a butterfly it forms a chrysalis and rebuilds itself. We have that opportunity now, to come out of this better people.

Use these themes to drive your creation. It can be any artistic expression that inspires you. Paint, pen, marker, pencil, clay, collage, mixed media, sculpture, photography, written, etc.

We will share our ideas and progress as we think through, start, create, and finish our pieces.

Requirements:

  1. Start one new artistic piece. (official challenge start time is Monday, April 13th but unofficially it’s as soon as you read this note)
  2. Share your idea and progress
  3. Encourage others in their endeavors. Give constructive and helpful feedback.
  4. Complete the project by May 12th.
